Activities : Dogsledding on Icelandic Glaciers
Dog sledding is fun, is gaining popularity and is a real treat for anyone with adventure in their blood. Just make yourself comfortable on a real dogsled and be whisked along by a team of sweet-natured, strong-character Greenland dogs. Dog sledding in South Iceland does not create any air or noise pollution, and the silence is a true gift, and quite a unique experience – a life enhancing moment to treasure for a long time. Dog sledding tours provide a unique opportunity to mix an adventure and sightseeing experience into one. It's time to discover the picturesque beauty of winter in Iceland – and the fun of dog sledding. This is also a favorite actvitiy for children.
During the summer, dogsled adventures are either on the glaciers Langjökull or Mýrdalsjökull, depending on the conditions. The regular season here usually runs from June through August on the glaciers. An extension of the activity is secured if snow conditions exist during the winter. In winter, depending on how much snow there is, the dog sledding tours are closer to Reykjavík and/or Hotel Rangá (30-50-min. drive). Remember to bring your camera and please be sure to inquire about sledding possibilities before arriving at the hotel as season may vary due to a plethora of conditions!!
